"The Enigma!"

         Artwork at http://www.celebratelifegallery.com/

It taunted him
dancing just beyond his line of sight
like a ghost a trick of the eye
a flitting shadow
on the outer edges of reality
a shadow in the mist
flirting with him
calling to him
blowing kisses
in the wind

Fingertips that usually
wrote like they were playing
the keys of a concert piano
gliding gracefully
from scene to scene
from detail to detail
weaving metaphors
into whatever tapestry
they imagined
horror mystery comedy
romance
suspense

This time words
eluded them
like a puzzle missing
a critical piece

The story hung
just beyond their grasp
an enigma
a mystery wrapped inside an illusion
somewhere
just beyond the edge
of sight of sound of touch
if only it would move
a little closer
become more solid more real

If only it would take form
shape
breathe
