Wentworth Miller: Heartbreak and Heartache in Prison Break - Season 4

Season Four of the serial drama televisions series was shot in LA and was aired in the United States on September 1, 2008.  It consisted of 24 episodes (22 television episodes and 2 straight to DVD episodes), 16 of which aired from September to December 2008. After a hiatus, it resumed on April 17, 2009 and concluded on May 15, 2009 with a two episode finale.

Fox’s President Kevin Reilly confirmed on the 13 January 2009, that Season Four of Prison Break would be the conclusion of the Series.  He explained, "Prison Break got to a point where a lot of the stories had been told." At the time, he said there was a possibility of adding two extra episodes; he said "We want to finish strong."   I remember reading this article somewhere and feeling as though my heart was breaking.  I had become so addicted to watching Prison Break that I swore inwardly that no other show would ever interest me again and you know what?  No other show has caught my interest as much as Prison Break did. 

While I was overcoming my dilemma about the finale of Prison Break, Prison Break Fans all over the world were over the moon when they heard the good news that Sarah Wayne Callies was returning to the Fourth Season of Prison Break. It meant that the fans were going to see Michael and Sara getting back together with a romantic rendezvous and some more kissing scenes.   Their meeting certainly didn’t disappoint the viewers and it definitely lifted my spirits up.  Went and Sarah once again pulled out all the stops and gave their fans exactly what they were waiting for.  The tender scenes of Michael and Sara together were so lovely.

Tender Moments. 

Many characters from the previous seasons were brought into Season Four.  The goal of bringing everyone together was to tie up all the loose ends creating the feel of one cohesive story instead of four individual seasons.   A wonderful actress Kathleen Quinlan joined the cast who played Lincoln and Michael’s estranged mother and Company Operative, Christina. [“The Manipulative Mother from Hell”.  She laughs.] Wyatt (Cress William) was the Company guy hired to track the boys down. [A mean looking dude.  She shudders.]  Then there was Roland Glenn (James Hiroyuki Liao) a hacker hired by the guys.  Don Self (Michael Rapaport) was The Homeland Security agent who hires the guys to bring down the Company. He’s character was the handler who provided them with tools, gadgets and cover stories [and turncoat … so it would seem … but it turned out that he was rather a sad and desperate case later on in the season.]

I feel like a stalker posting these videos below but it's so nice to see Went being himself for a change instead of a made up character isn't it?  I guess this is the closest some of us will ever get to seeing Went the man. [She sighs.]

Producer Matt Olmstead confirmed that there would be deaths in the series and he wasn’t wrong.  I couldn’t keep up with all the death counts and body bags.  There were a lot of kidnappings going on too and poor Michael had a gun pointed at his head at every turn. [She laughs.]  Speaking about Michael’s head, I was most upset that Went’s character Michael had a brain tumor and he was dying.  I found it quite difficult to watch Went [oops I mean Michael] having a nose bleed every now and then and passing out. The scene where Michael heard the news that he had some sort of incurable brain tumor was too much for me to handle. Of course Went’s convincing performance made it even more realistic for me too.  I remember crying uncontrollably.   [Went, you touched my heart and broke it at the same time!]

Everyone in this final season was chasing Scylla.  The General wanted it, Christina Scofield was after it.  Even China and India wanted it.  Hell I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want Michael [oops … I mean] Scylla badly too but I preferred seeing Michael and Lincoln chasing after it so I could see Went over and over again on my TV Screen. [She winks and laughs.]

I mentioned earlier that there were a few faces of old in the mix:  Benjamin Miles “C-Note” Franklin (Rockmond Dunbar), Paul Kellerman, (Paul Adelstein), General Jonathan Krantz (Leon Russon) and Charles Westmoreland (Muse Watson).  It was good to see these characters once again.

"Hello Officer!"

When Paul Kellerman (Paul Adelstein) who was then backed by the United Nations offered a legal way out for everyone I thought thank goodness, finally everyone was safe they must have being “pulling our leg” about this being the end of Season Four. Nope, to my horror and disbelief I was looking at Michael Scofield’s tombstone on my TV screen.  There was Sara and Michael Jr standing together with Sucre, Mahone and Lincoln four years down the line, paying a remembrance visit to Michael’s grave.  Just to add another stab to my aching heart Lincoln leaves “The Origami Crane” on top of the tombstone with the words inscribed ....

Wow! Talk about heart breaking stuff.

… as if this wasn't enough there was even more heart ache waiting for the fans of Prison Break.

I’m too overcome with emotion now so I’ll continue with the finale of the Series “The Final Break” in my next blog. [She sniffs, dabs her eyes and blows her nose.] Goodbye.
