“Wait”
By Amber Baqui
Wait.
Like a butterfly, patient, on its way to earn its wings
That and all the beautiful growing things,
We wait for.
Wait.
Like the drowsy sun, before rustic skies, on its way to set
That and the glorious changes of our daily life we let,
We wait for.
Wait.
Like a coffee, hot to the tongue, we leave to cool
That and the silly things in life that aren’t too cruel,
We wait for.
Wait.
Like a novel, slow, affecting, we wait for the confrontation
That and the sure but steady details that need our undivided attention,
We wait for.
If we can wait for the butterfly,
For the sunset,
For the coffee,
And the novel,
Then we can wait for something more.
That and the people who come and go through our heart’s little door.
